"The glycoproteins and glycolipids are like the signs on the walls telling people where they are and what each area is. They are kind of like the the labels on all the doors in the school, telling someone who's classroom it is or what room it really is. The only difference is that the glycoproteins and glycolipids don't really label the carrier proteins. Finally, the cholesterol is somewhat like the braces in the walls. Although, cholesterol isn't there to be sturdy, it does help give the cell membrane support. There isn't really anything in a school wall to make it more flexible."
