What: You've got to understand these institutions. One is real and has been along for a very long time. One is fiction and has been around for a very long time, at least in the world of Star Trek. But understanding the fictional institution gives insight into the real one, The Vatican. The Borg travel through the universe and conquer other species and co-opted what was best about each. The history of the Vatican and perhaps Catholicism is similar. The men in Rome have been conquering and co-opting cultures for a very long time. The philosophy of Tomas Aquinas is a co-option of Greek Rationality, the mass is a co-potion of a Celtic religious right and at it's core the co-ption of message of Jesus itself.
