Washington D.c.

a: Washington-dc ~
b: High School

What: The link is to the Q&A show with Brian Lamb interviewing John Hulsman. Hulsman is refreshing blunt about the current state of the USA and the freakyness that is Washington DC. In the interview he compares Washington DC to a high school, in that the people there want to be associated with the 'cool people. Cool , in the context, means people like Henry Kissinger and other famous types.

Modern Conservatives=bad Metal Band

a: Modern conservative ~
b: a bad metal band

What: "How did conservative discussion on TV go from this to Glenn Beck? While still given to hyperbole, they both are quite erudite and there's no yelling or fearmongering. Compared to this, modern conservatives sound like a bad metal band: a lot of noise with no substance." The linked video is a Firing Line discussion between Bill Buckley and Malcolm Muggeridge. And the point is raised in this analogy is appropriate. How did political conservatism go from this to the noisy nonsense that is Fox News?

METAMIA is a free database of analogy and metaphor. Anyone can contribute or search. The subject matter can be anything. Science is popular, but poetry is encouraged. The goal is to integrate our fluid muses with the stark literalism of a relational database. Metamia is like a girdle for your muses, a cognitive girdle.
